The times have been posted to Golden Heart’s web site.   I have also added them to the shared Annapolis Yoga Calendar along with Golden Heart’s contact information. Yoga for cancer patients and their caregivers

Just read the following article in today’s Washington Post, Yoga for cancer patients and their caregivers (by Vicky Hallett) I originally noticed the article as it mentioned yoga as a component of many area cancer programs, including the Welness House in Annapolis, but what really caught my eye were some of the shocking caregiver quotes and figures… “It’s not infrequent for caregivers to die before the person they’re caring for,” says Helen Lavretsky, a geriatric psychiatrist at UCLA. The 39 participants were caring for family members with dementia — not cancer — but the stats are still stunning.   Just 20 minutes of a home yoga practice every day for eight weeks significantly reduced their stress levels and improved their quality of life and cognitive abilities. Please share or talk with any loved ones that might benefit from this information.  Perhaps the caregiver figures cited in this article can provide a starting point for a conversation about helping caregiver find new ways (yoga or non-yoga) to reduce some of the stress from the incredible demands placed on them.   Interested in Annapolis Yoga information, events and notification of free/discounted classes offered by local Yoga studios? ‘Like Us’ on Facebook at http://Facebook.com/AnnapolisYoga to get newsfeed updates the second we post them. Annapolis Meditation Classes

Chris Kelley (of Blue Pearl Yoga) is offering a 5 week series of Meditation classes at Shakti Studio in Annapolis, MD.   The classes will take place Wednesday nights from 7:45 to 8:45PM from October 19th to November 16th.   I’ve taken a lot of classes with Chris – she’s one of my favorite Yoga instructors – fun classes, great sense of humor and a great, varied knowledge of many different aspects of Yoga with a great deal of training in Pranayama and Meditation.  Here are some excerpts from her class flyer… Need a chance to get away from the rush of everydat life and develop your own inner strength? Want to release the compressed feeling that life can load on you? Do you want to learn how to meditate? Let’s come together to create the space that will allow us the time and support to begin feeling the benefits of meditation.   We will explore some basic meditation techniques and play with common difficulties of a home meditation practice. This is not an asana (posture) practice.   If you would like to add a physical practice, you might want to come to Chris’s earlier 6:00pm yoga class.    Add asana and Wednesday nights could be your Personal Pretreat Nights. If you have questions about this event, Chris can be contacted at 410-703-3163 and Shakti can be contacted at 410-757-8272....
